Such an important topic for women to understand but it's so hard given most of our own doctors don't understand it. They just make us feel we have to just accept it - and that's not true. We started She2.0 to educate women and to blow the stigma right out of this topic. We love what Stacy is doing!

The problem is the extreme lack of information. Many of us are in perimenopause without knowing it. Mine started at around age 37. When I went to my doctor, telling her about the extreme fatigue and severe joint pain and the insomnia because of the pain, she got me to have all sorts of tests done. Thyroid, rheumatism, etc. Not once did she think I might be menopausal. If I had known, I would have gone to the menopause clinic. As it is, my symptoms have gotten worse and worse over the last 5 years. It’s debilitating. I fully understand why my mom took hormones for 6 years. I will be going to the menopause clinic soon, I want to go on HRT, too. I cannot live like this any longer.

I am so happy finally someone is talking about menopause! When I was in my 30s and taking Remicade infusions, a chemotherapy class drug, I suddenly lost my period And had all the symptoms of someone going through menopause even though my doctor told me I was not going through menopause I was just really low on progesterone. Who knows what was going on but I didn’t get it. For over six years and then finally when I got off the remiicade infusions and stopped working out so much and put on some weight my period came back. Now 10 years later in my mid-40s I’m experiencing high levels of anxiety wicked dry skin joint pain periods that are very light and then sometimes they go on forever I have no idea what’s going on but I’m guessing it’s menopause or perimenopause. Unfortunately I have no women to talk to you about this. And because the Remicade infusions bankrupt me the only doctor I can afford to go to is planned parenthood. The Sleepless nights in the mood swings are killing me and my relationships.

When I was 45 I was experiencing a Great Year (2011), embracing my Age yet living it well with Nutrition Education and Application to my Health. None of this prepared me for what was next. Out of the Air I woke up on a Monday with what my own female Colleague thought was a "walking flu", by Thursday after Work my GP broke it to me that I was entering Perimenopause and with the Breast Cancer concern, no HRT would be offered at the time. Everyday for 10 Years I have debilitating Hot Flushes that I must push through, I have pain, fatigue and muscle wasting and unlike Ms. London here my face slowly aged beyond my 55 years. A Compassionate Consultant told me privately this is all down to Hormonal imbalance and sadly in some cases cannot be helped naturally or with HRT. I hope Ms. London addresses this reality, as DAVINA MCCALL and Channel 4 here in the UK have. Bless All x!

45 is pretty typical. Most interesting thing I discovered when I finally figured out what was going on, was that PERIOMENOPAUSE (which can start as early as 40), last up to TEN YEARS!! No one ever told me that! And then the definition of Menopause, which is when you are already on the other side, is when you have not had a period for 12 straight months. Once one knows these facts, they feel less like they are having an extreme case. And usually it is a few years in already once one figures out what it is. It is a marathon, not a sprint. But one never even hears the starting gunshot!

Good for you. For the women who find getting out of bed has become almost an impossibility, though, that won’t be a solution. As she clearly said, the severity of symptoms varies extremely. The number of women who get so depressed they commit suicide is still very high. I will be going on HRT. My symptoms are debilitating and they’ve been around since my mid-thirties. For a long time, nobody even noticed I was perimenopausal. My doctor sent me to get all sorts of tests done because of my symptoms, and not once did she think I might be in early menopause. Rheumatism, thyroid problems, … You name it, it was examined. In the end, I had to figure it out myself. My mom was on hormones for 6 years, because her symptoms got to the point where she could no longer function. If you are lucky enough to get through with mild issues, that’s great, just don’t go around acting as if a good diet and exercise will get everyone through. It won’t.

THANK YOU Stacy London for sharing. Menopause, a natural process for women is a highly individualized experience, determined by the attitudes and beliefs a woman holds about her transition & might be a taboo topic for some. Menopause experiences vary widely. Embracing a positive mindset helps and is healthy!!

Thanks Sara for the great question. She is giving so much fantastic information and truth about how ageism keeps the topic hidden. Such an important topic❤️

One does not go to the ER for menopausal symptoms. Certainly not now either!! Make an appointment with your OB/GYN. And Joy is not going to help you!

There is far too little information about the individuality of menopause. I am now just short of 80, nearly 38 years of menopause, still get hot flashes. For some it never seems to stop.

Thanks Whoopi for the great intro. It’s crucial for this topic to get some attention. All women who live long enough go thru it. 10 years later I still get hellish hot flashes occasionally🔥😮

I had the same experience. But my mom had a hysterectomy at 45, so it wasn't an experience she had and could pass in to me. Similar to the "birthing of the placenta" part of childbirth. Why is that never in the movies, or discussed at all, so one can be prepared?? That one was the bigger surprise to me! (Especially as my 1st was a C and then had a VBac 12 months later).

Depending how old you are now....as was STATED, this is a subject that truly wasn't discussed a lot...I'm fortunate not only did I never ever EVER have those infamous hot flashes, I never gained weight...I'm a very happy person, and I wake up ready to go...when I told all this to my mother, she said I was just like my grandmother...her mother!!! My daughter in-law is having a hard time with it though...I'm only 10yrs. older than her! 🌸
